TBR Safety Tips: What does that bouy mean?
Buoy Designations
Are you planning to be your own captain when you rent? Take a minute to review the info below about buoys that could be helpful for navigation and important for safety. There are 4 main buoys on Lake Minnetonka:
Danger buoys: These orange buoys mark a danger below the water surface. When you see an orange buoy, please scan the water and look for others that mark the hazard. Stay clear of all orange buoys.
Point Buoys: These are the Black and White buoys that mark potential hazards between the buoy and the nearest shore. When you see these buoys, direct your path to the lake side of the buoy, and DO NOT go between the buoy and the shore.
Channel Buoys: Channel buoys are red and green and mark the navigation channel. When navigating, you will always go between the red and green channel buoys.
Slow/No wake buoys: These buoys are white and will say, “SLOW” or “NO WAKE”. When you see these buoys, keep your speed at 5 MPH maximum.
Your safety is important to us! If you want a safety and equipment refresher before your rental, let us know, and we would be happy to spend some time with you before you start your day on the lake.
